. . . To Rabbi Mauricio Balter, spiritual leader of the Masorti congregation in Kiryat Bialik, who was the focus of a feature story in the Jerusalem Post this past October, entitled "Free-market Yiddishkeit".

. . . To Rabbi Nilton Bonder, spiritual leader of the Masorti congregation Congregacao Judaica do Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, who recently opened the "Midrash Cultural Center" in the upscale neighborhood of Leblon as a center for information on Jewish culture and a place to promote tolerance and pluralism.

. . . To Rabbi Jules Harlow, former prayer book editor for the Rabbinical Assembly, who was recently honored, together with his wife Navah, by Masorti Olami for his work with the Bnei Anusim, the descendents of crypto-Jews, in Lisbon, Portugal. Thanks to the Harlows' assistance, the Bnei Anusim have been able to return to the Jewish faith and have established the first non-Orthodox synagogue, Kehilat Beit Israel, in the history of Portugal.

. . . To MERCAZ leaders Dr. Stephen S. Wolnek and Robert B. Levine who were re-elected as Vice Presidents for Community Relations and Israel Relations, respectively, of the Jewish National Fund. Also, to Evelyn Seelig, former MERCAZ president, who was re-elected as Vice President of the American Zionist Movement.
